The first scientific seminar on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Conference on Marine and Coastal Biodiversity.

A Scientific Seminar on the Sidelines of the #Mediterranean_Conference_on_Marine_Biodiversity_and_Mediterranean_Biodiversity, held on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the Ministry of Environment’s headquarters.

The first session of the scientific seminar, which was held on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Conference on Marine and Mediterranean Biodiversity, was inaugurated in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Al-Arabi Munir, Minister of Environment, Mr. Mohamed Al-Huweij, Minister of Economy, Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Halabous, member of the High Council of State, as well as Dr. Khaled Ghoma, Deputy for Scientific Affairs at the University of Tripoli, Dr. Ramadan Al-Jadi, Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Tripoli, Dr. Ihneen Al-Maawi, Deputy Minister of Environment, Mr. Mohamed Sharia, Deputy Minister of Planning, Major General Mustafa Al-Qadeem, Head of the Environmental Police Department, and Engineer Al-Ajili Al-Mansouri, Head of the General Authority for Fisheries, as well as the Scientific and Preparatory Committees of the conference, along with a number of interested individuals, academics, and specialists. The event emphasized the importance of strengthening national and regional efforts to protect biodiversity, support environmental sustainability, and implement national strategies and plans for biodiversity.

Lectures were presented covering the themes of the conference and explaining its goals, as follows:

  • The first lecture was on marine and coastal biodiversity, presented by Professor Ismail Shuqman, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee.
  • The second lecture, presented by Dr. Ramadan Atiya, a member of the Scientific Committee and a lecturer at Omar Al-Mukhtar University, addressed the threats and risks to marine life.
  • Dr. Khaled Al-Taib, Chairman of the Scientific Committee, concluded the seminar with a lecture on protecting marine biodiversity and marine protected areas.

At the conclusion of the seminar, attendees stressed the importance and necessity of enhancing regional cooperation between Mediterranean countries and supporting scientific research aimed at protecting marine biodiversity and ensuring the sustainability of marine resources for future generations.
