The National Day for Libyan Artisan Fishermen
The Libyan Association of Friends of Artisan Fishing celebrated the National Day for Artisan Fishermen at the Intermediate Technical Institute for Marine Fishing. This celebration comes as a recognition of the role Libyan fishermen play in ensuring food security and preserving our rich maritime heritage.
December 30 is recognized as the National Day for Libyan Fishermen, honoring their efforts and sacrifices. Despite the postponement of this year’s celebration due to circumstances beyond our control, we were keen to hold a special event that expresses our appreciation for this vital segment of society.
During the event, professional fisherman Captain Omar Talha was honored as the 2024 recipient in recognition of his extensive experience and contributions to artisan fishing. This recognition is a message of gratitude and appreciation to all Libyan fishermen who work diligently and faithfully.
The celebration was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Saber Al-Azabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Marine Resources, along with a group of fishermen, stakeholders, and partners in this vital sector. The event also witnessed broad participation from members of the Libyan Association of Friends of Artisan Fishing.
The celebration featured a presentation highlighting the association’s activities over the past years, aimed at supporting artisan fishermen, preserving fishery resources, and enhancing the role of fishing in the national economy.
